Janet Callahan at the Michigan Witches Ball

Congratulations to 2025 Pagan of the Year Janet Callahan!!!!

“When I was first asked to announce the Pagan of the Year, I was truly surprised. I thought to myself, “Surely, there must be someone better suited for this honor.” But then I heard who would be receiving the award, and I thought, “Oh wow! Yes, I really want to do this!”

In the late 90s, a remarkable person entered the Michigan pagan community. This individual was definitely not a Midwesterner, and I’m sure Michigan felt quite strange indeed to her. Honestly, I don’t think our community fully understood the treasure we were about to welcome.

In her daily work, she operates in a space where few women in her field do., which not only makes her a strong leader but also a woman of integrity .

She is a friend in times of need, often appearing with food when tough times or offering a shoulder to cry on. She is an innovator in so many areas,. She is always willing to help out, and stands up to take the lead for her friends in need. She always not only shows up, but makes you feel you have nothing to fear.

Deeply connected to her roots, she carries a wealth of knowledge about her heritage and has dedicated herself to its preservation. Her passion for protecting her culture inspired her to create innovative talking devices that help keep her language alive.

In the pagan of Michigan world, She first met Gordon Ireland in this community, who introduced her to ConVocation And the pagan community of Southeast Michigan.

Almost immediately, she began volunteering for the community but has always felt a deep connection to homeschooling and working with children in pagan practices. This passion for community and children laid the roots and foundation for the incredible work she does in the community today.

I honestly look up to this amazing person. As someone with multiple learning disabilities, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to communicate personal struggles with family and loved ones. Yet, this remarkable individual navigates those challenges with such grace and ease; it is truly inspiring. I am in awe every time I see her with her loving children, and I hope other mothers find inspiration in her example.

As a loved leader in the Pagan community, she wears many hats — minister, author, Pagan Pride Day hostess, and founder of the Spiral Moon Family Circle, which has blossomed into a vibrant and supportive network. Most recently, she launched her own publishing company, Spiral Moon Publishing, further expanding her mission to uplift and inspire others.

So, let’s stand up and give this wonderful human the excitement she deserves! Please join me in welcoming to the stage, Janet Callihan! ” – Barb Milburn Stenger
